Fighting global water inequality

pink-logo-white-emphasis

A global water crisis

people don’t have access to safe and clean toilets

children can’t wash their hands at school

people use drinking water contaminated with faeces

people lack basic hand washing facilities at home

A shitty situation

Everyone has the right to water and safe, dignified sanitation facilities. It’s as simple as that. But it’s 2022 and over 2 billion people still lack these basic amenities. And the problem doesn’t end there. A lack of access to safe and clean water and washing facilities causes disease and illness. In fact, according to the WorldBank, hygiene promotion is the most cost effective health intervention.

What’s more, communities without basic water access experience greater levels of poverty as livelihoods and businesses suffer and education is more frequently interrupted. At this point, you may be asking, whose responsibility is all this? Well, despite efforts on the part of governments and agencies, funding for water and sanitation needs to increase 4x to hit the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. And that’s where we come in!

Let's get our shit together

How it works

Throughout 2022, we’re raising funds to support a coalition of awesome projects all across the world. These projects are on the frontline of the fight for water justice.

These community-led projects understand the local issues, they know the solutions, and all they need is our support to unlock grassroots change that will impact the lives of thousands of people.

FAQs

Who is behind GiveAShit?

The #GiveAShit Fund is an initiative from the Global Solidarity Foundation. The Foundation develops, implements and scales campaigns to support community-led initiatives that address the sustainable development goals.

GSF is both a Community Interest Company in the UK and a non-profit in Switzerland. This means we’re a non-profit, investing all donations and profit into our partners and into our campaigning work.

How do you choose your partners?

We believe that recognised local communities and grassroots organisations are best placed to catalyse sustainable and equitable change. It is these organisations that are close to the people and work out effective and participatory solutions. However, small and community-led organisations often have little fundraising capacity, which is another reason why our support is crucial.

In addition to these principles, we value an environmentally friendly approach, innovation and personal relationships. All our partners are officially registered and stay in close contact with the #GiveAShit team so we can best understand their developing needs and celebrate their ongoing impact.

How much money actually goes to the partners?

We aim to keep our expenses as small as possible and ensure that at least 85% of all donations are directly reaching the organisations on the ground.

I represent a venue! Can we donate directly?

Absolutely!

Whether or not you’re displaying our iconic GiveAShit posters for your visitors, you can make a direct donation to the GiveAShit campaign and help tackle water inequality.

Simply click here to make you’re donation. In return, we’ll send you a beautiful GiveAShit certificate that you can proudly share with your visitors, followers and community.
